Erm
Um olhar ao desastre humano

Erms (from Catalan) are lands that were explored until they were left with nothing, barren deserts. Erms are also fields that are far from civilization, where life is generated spontaneously, independently of human will. In O Sal da Terra by Wim Wenders and Juliano Ribeiro, about photographer Sebastião Salgado, I was impressed by the amount of disaster that an individual can witness and the reaction of their body’s emptying as a consequence. I was inspired by the decision of two individuals to reverse the disaster. I was surprised by the ability to rebuild an ecosystem. I was touched by the process that triggers in the individual as he cares for and observes the vibrant growth of life around him. Other external stimuli that influenced the direction of the project were: No Logo by Naomi Klein, the work of Ferdinand Hodler, Invocation to My Body by Vergílio Ferreira and Haneen by Raja Banout.
